It may have been the season finale of Britain’s Got Talent, but it was judge Simon Cowell who stole the limelight.
On Saturday night’s finale, Simon Cowell and his fellow judges — Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and David Walliams — were pelted by eggs during a performance of “The Impossible Dream” by Welsh opera singers Richard and Adam Johnson. While the brothers were singing, a woman raced onstage and started tossing eggs at the judging panel.
The woman was quickly rushed off stage by security and the performance continued egg-less. At the end, the judges gave the singers a standing ovation and Simon is seen taking off his jacket — most likely because it was covered with egg yolk.
The egg thrower was revealed to be a 30-year-old viola player named Natalie Holt, who was onstage playing with the orchestra.“I want to apologize to Richard and Adam for overshadowing their performance,” she said in a statement. “I’ve never done anything like this before and in hindsight I have realized it was a silly thing to do.”
Simon took the situation light-heartedly, later tweeting, “I don’t really like eggs.”
The Johnson brothers finished in third place in the finale.
