Early Sunday evening, X Factor judge Demi Lovato publically acknowledged the death of her biological father, Patrick Lovato. Though their relationship had been rocky at times, Demi gave no indication of bitter feelings — only thankfulness for all the support she’s received.
“I feel so humbled to have had so much support from my fans, friends, family and complete strangers,” Demi posted to Twitter. “God bless you all, thank you so much for the love.”
In October 2011, Patrick, who has frequently been estranged from Demi, told Radar Online he was sick with cancer. It has not been confirmed this was his cause of death. He later told Radar that he and Demi had reconnected with Dems reportedly saying “she loved me, she really loves her daddy.”
Word of Patrick’s death came Saturday, June 22, when Demi’s older sister Dallas tweeted, “Rest in peace daddy I love you.” Quickly, Demi fans made #RIPPatrickLovato a trending topic on Twitter.
Demi’s mother Dianna De La Garza added, “Thank you all for the outpouring of love and prayers. Y’all are amazing!”
Because of the sudden news, Demi did not attend X Factor commitments over the weekend. Acknowledging the absence of the 20-year-old star, host Mario Lopez tweeted a photo of fellow judges Simon Cowell, Kelly Rowland, and Paulina Rubio during a photo shoot. "With my @TheXFactorUSA team! Missing @ddlovato today... :(." Simon added, "My thoughts are with you Demi."
We’re thinking of you too, Dems! All the best to you and yours.
