Simon Cowell finally broke his silence on the shocking pregnancy news that shook the entertainment world. Earlier today at the X Factor TCAs panel in Los Angeles, reporters were all over the industry bigwig about his knocking up a former friend's wife, 36-year-old NYC socialite Lauren Silverman. Simon seemed to be in good spirits and went so far as to joke about the incident after reporters congratulated the first-time father-to-be, saying, "Am I missing something?" before buttoning his lip. Good one, Simon!
The X Factor judge continued on a more serious note, "Unfortunately, I have to keep this for the moment private. It's just one of those things. But thank you very much anyway."
After the panel wrapped, reporters went after Simon again about his upcoming baby, and the usually sharp-tongued reality TV star came off surprisingly level-headed and pragmatic given the ugly situation, "I would love to [talk], but I have to respect a lot of people's feelings right now [...] There are a lot of things I will eventually clear up when the time is right, but I really have to be sensitive because there's a lot of people's feelings involved here."
Simon wasn't the only one opening up about the big pregnancy news. Second-time mommy-to-be Lauren Silverman released a statement via her lawyers on her impending (and possibly drama-filled) divorce from husband Andrew, a real estate mogul, father to her first child (Adam, who is now 7 years old), and Simon's close friend. "I am committed to sorting things out with Andrew as amicably as possible to ensure the well-being of our son."
Both Simon and Lauren need — and are requesting — privacy and space through this crazy period. This echoes Andrew's feelings on the hairy situation as well. He released a statement earlier today (a few hours before Lauren's) saying, "My top priority is protecting my 7-year-old son while working to resolve all outstanding issues with my wife [...] Hopefully people can respect the interest of our child during this process."
Simon does has a support system with his new X Factor judges, Paulina Rubio and Kelly Rowland. Kelly went so far as to tell People that Simon is "going to be a great father." Lauren's mother Carole Saland has also stepped up in support. Of her pregnant daughter. She told US Weekly, "I'm here with her and she does nothing but take care of her child and she doesn't deserve all of this bad publicity." She continued, "She's a nice girl from Miami Beach."
Sounds like quite a mess, but we hope Simon, Lauren, and Andrew can work this drama out!
