One of the best parts of The X Factor each season is meeting talented singers who also have touching back stories. And on The X Factor 2012, one of our favorite people we got to know — albeit very briefly — was Jeffrey Adam Gutt.
The single dad sang Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” in an audition for the judges, with son Talon watching him perform for the very first time. “This is my last chance,” the then 36-year-old said of trying to make it in the music world. He told the judges he was trying to provide for his 4-year-old son with a music career, and it seemed like he was headed for stardom.
The tattoo sleeved, gravel-voiced performer made a big impression on the judges: L.A. Reid called him “Unbelievable,” and Britney Spears dubbed his voice, “Soothing and unique.” Even Simon Cowell was in on the praise, saying it was “one of the most brilliant auditions I’ve heard.” Of course, we were shocked when he didn’t make it to the Live Shows.
But JAG is back and better than ever in the X Factor 2013 — and he even makes it into the Top 16! The proud father started off his audition by singing “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing," but the judges had to stop him because the song just didn't fit his voice at all. Simon Cowell gave Jeff the chance to sing another song, and he then went and blew everyone out of the water with his stunning performance of Radiohead's "Creep." We can't wait to see him in the live shows this year!
Do you remember Jeffrey Alan Gutt from last year? Was he one of your favorites?
