X Factor 2013 contestant Carlito Olivero picked his song well. The judges did indeed want him to stay after the then-23-year-old performed Rihanna’s hit single of the same name. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, the aspiring singer arrived in Los Angeles for auditions looking to take his talent to the next level and become, as he put it, “the Latino Chris Brown.”

As a barista at a coffeeshop, Carlito says he’ll sing to customers he loves performing so much. And judges Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland, and Paulina Rubio sure did love him. Paulina even started the audition off with a little Spanish banter with Carlito. It must have helped him loosen up as he went on to belt out a top-notch version of Rihanna’s “Stay.” It was so good Simon even admitted “I actually like everything about you” and added “this kid looks like a real star.” High praise!

Carlito got so into his act that he found himself working all corners of the stage, including behind the judges! Want to see how Carlito did? Watch his audition video and weigh in with your thoughts in the comments below.
