Just when we thought things couldn’t get any worse, The X Factor decided to air a show on Thanksgiving night. Season 3 of the reality competition series has already been limping along when it comes to ratings and throwing in a major national holiday didn’t help one bit.
Unfortunately for the series, Mario Lopez’s dimples just didn’t seem to have the same magic as Thanksgiving traditions with X Factor ranking lower than A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and bringing in less than half the audience of Football Night In America — Live on Thanksgiving night. Overall, the November 28 one-hour elimination episode had a series low of 1.0, down 33 percent from the previous week’s ratings and a staggering 64 percent down from last Thanksgiving’s 2.8 rating.
Wednesday night’s November 27 two-hour show performed slightly better than the Turkey Day travesty, taking the second spot for the 8 p.m. slot after Survivor on CBS. The 1.2 rating was, however, down 29 percent from the previous week’s numbers — not exactly the best of signs as the show heads into its final few weeks.
X Factor returns this Wednesday (December 4) with the Top Six contestants singing two songs during the 8 to 10 p.m. episode, and the one-hour elimination set for 8 to 9 p.m. Thursday, December 5, exactly two weeks from the grand finale date. And at the rate the numbers are dropping, it may well be the last X Factor finale ever.
