Season 3 of The X Factor is almost over; the 2013 finale airs just next week. Sadly, though, ratings for the Simon Cowell-fronted singing competition aren’t picking up as the show races towards its climax.

The December 13 episode saw country boy band Restless Road eliminated from the competition, and a total of 4.9 million viewers tuned in to watch the show. That’s more viewers than tuned in for NBC’s The Sing-Off, but sadly, the rival show ended up with a higher demo rating: 1.4 to the X Factor’s 1.2. What’s more, The X Factor’s demo rating was down two-tenths from its previous installment.

However, ratings are still up from The X Factor’s Thanksgiving episode, which was the lowest ever for the series with a rating of 1.0. Continually low ratings have led many to speculate that Fox might cancel the show. That does not appear to be happening this season, though whether or not the show will be renewed for Season 4 still seems up in the air.

Next week, remaining acts Jeff Gutt, Alex & Sierra, and Carlito Olivero will face off for the Season 3 crown. But just how many viewers tune in to watch? That’s the real question.
