Just days before the finale airs for Season 3 of The X Factor in the States, the UK version of the show wrapped this weekend. It’s the tenth season of a show that has brought the likes of One Direction into our world (for which we are forever grateful) So who joined the coveted ranks of X Factor UK winners as of the December 15 season conclusion?

That would be Sam Bailey! The 36-year-old mother of two was mentored by Sharon Osbourne, making the win all the more fitting since Season 10 was Sharon’s last on the show. The judge has decided to once again depart from the panel as has fellow musical mentor Gary Barlow. Meanwhile, show head Simon Cowell is rumored to already have several names in play as replacements for the next installment of the popular series.

During the finale, Sam sang a duet with X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger and also debuted her single, “Skyscraper.” She vied against fellow contestants Nicholas McDonald and Luke Friend for the title but was decidedly the winner, taking home 53.4 percent of the vote compared to Nicholas’s 36.3 percent and Luke’s 10.3 percent.

As part of her prize, Sam will join Beyoncé on the UK leg of The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, which, you know, ain’t exactly shabby. Sam has also landed a record deal with her debut album set to release sometime in the new year.

“It honestly means everything to me,” she says of the win. “I wanted to reach the final and I’m so lucky the public have liked me.”

Liked her? We’d say so with an estimated 9.7 million viewers tuning in to see finale. Granted, that’s the lowest figure for an X Factor UK conclusion since 2005 but it’s far and away better than the American version’s ratings for Season 3. Maybe we need a little bit more Bey involved on this side of the Pond…
