No surprise here: Things are changing over at The X Factor on Fox. After a season of record low ratings, the reality TV show needs a shakeup, says producer Simon Cowell. Simon, who is also a judge on the show, sees big changes ahead, including a new team of judges and a new role for himself.
Currently Simon says he expects the show to return for another season next year, news which may come as a surprise after Season 3’s tanking ratings. A fourth installment of X Factor would look very different, however, Simon assured reporters during a December 16 teleconference.
Among the proposed changes: cutting the show down from two nights a week to just one and mixing up the judging panel. Both Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio were new additions to the US judges’ table this year, while Demi Lovato returned for her second year.
As for Simon, he vaguely alluded to a “different kind of role” for himself, which seems to support rumors he may be departing the US version of the show for the much more popular, much more successful UK edition. In fact, the day after Simon’s teleconference, UK publication The Sun announced Simon will indeed return to The X Factor UK in a ₤25 million (roughly $40 million) deal that would “make him the highest paid entertainer ever.”
Whatever changes may be in store next year, we’ve still got a Season 3 finale to enjoy this week!
