Last week ended with two heavy punches to the X Factor franchise. First, news that show mastermind and judge Simon Cowell would be departing the U.S. series for his homeland’s much more successful version of the series. Second, arriving just mere hours later, word that X Factor as an entire show was down for the count in the States.
Fans of the show may be reeling from the cancellation news (well, at least the ones who weren’t aware of Season 3’s abysmal ratings), but how do the stars associated with X Factor feel about the series ending? Simon took to Twitter on February 7 to share his feels in 140 characters or less.
“Today was a day of mixed emotions. Excited to confirm me returning to the Uk X factor and sad to leave America,” he wrote. Simon thanked fans of both series and ended on a positive note: “I have had a blast. Really the best time of my life. Thank you for the support and the fun we have had together. It’s never forgotten.”
His goal now: Keep finding the next big thing. “We found some amazing talent/ And now the search begins to find the next star. That’s why we make these shows,” he tweeted.
The last big thing the show unearthed in the U.S. was Season 3 champs, Alex & Sierra. The duo, who are currently at work on new music, took a break from the studio to explain how it feels to be the very last winners X Factor will likely ever have in the United States.
“Sad to hear about @TheXFactorUSA,” they wrote, “but we’re very grateful that we got the chance to be on the show while it was here. memories for life.”
