If Britney Spears committed a huge media blunder, would you hold it against her?

When asked by TMZ reporters what she thought of the passing of original Mouseketeer Annette Funicello — who died April 8 at the age of 70 — it would appear Brit didn’t fully understand the question. Smiling big as she got into her SUV, Britney responded, “I think that’s great!Oops.

The former X Factor judge later turned to her fans on Twitter to explain her puzzling response and also make it clear that she is not at all joyful about the passing of Annette. “Misheard a question I was asked earlier by press while I was out and about.  I am DEVASTATED to hear about the passing of Annette Funicello.”

Britney followed up with another paying tribute to Annette’s influence on her as a child. “She was a role model for me during my days as a Mousketeer.”

Annette was one of the most prominent of the original members of The Mickey Mouse Club, which ran from 1955 to 1960 and reran on The Disney Channel for several years. As many longtime fans of Britney know, she was a member of the cast of MMC, the variety series’ late ‘80s/early ‘90s revival.

Well, we’re very relieved to know that Britney is not delighting in the deaths of her predecessors.
