As we gear up for The X Factor USA Season 2 to premiere on FOX September 12, 2012, it’s important to take check back in with Season 1’s greats — including runner-up Chris Rene. We snagged an interview with the urban artist at MTV’s Video Music Awards on September 6, 2012. Check out what Chris has to say about his next album, the name of his next single, and his advice for The X Factor 2013 contestants.
What’s been going on in your career lately?
Chris: It’s been crazy! I got to do a radio tour across the US – traveled to so many different cities. It’s insane. I played concerts with Flo Rida, Carly Rae Jepsen, Wiz Kalifa, it’s a dream come true where I’m at. I’ve got an album coming out called “Where I’m At” that hopefully comes out in October. We’ll see what happens.
Can you tell us anything about the album? Do you know what the first single is going to be?
We’ll see. I might have a single coming out and the initials on it might be R. W. Y.

Do you have any artist on the album or collaborations?
It’s all Chris Rene, baby!
Any plans to go back on the The X Factor anytime soon?
I’d love to. We’ll see what happens. It’s all politics.
Do you have a big tour planned for when the album comes out?
Yes! It’s going to be incredible and I’m excited.
What would your advice be for people coming up on Idol and X Factor and reality singing competition shows?
I’d say go be yourself and do your thing and if you’re potent and they feel you, it’s going down and you’re going to go there. Really truly and honestly give it your all and I just believe it’s a Godsend in the universe and things happen and we’ll see what happens with all them cats.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing? Did you have a back up plan?
If I wasn’t doing music, I’d be painting, which is already what I’m doing. I’d have a hauling company, which I already have that, and I’d hang with my family which I’m already doing. Being able to do this music is an extra plus in my life.
