Hearts broke across America on Thursday as X Factor finalist Jennel Garcia was eliminated. The 18-year-old songstress from Rochester, MA, had given her all from the minute she auditioned. Even grumpy Simon Cowell himself admitted Jennel shouldn’t have been up for elimination this week. Speaking with reporters after her tearful exit, Jennel revealed her plans for the future — for both her style and her career.
Asked if she felt she got a lot of crap for her image, Jennel held nothing back. “I did. And the first thing I'm doing tomorrow is dying my hair black [laughs]. And I'm taking off the heels because I don't wear heels; I like sneakers; I don't like fancy shirts; I like T-shirts and I don't like brown hair, I like black hair and I am putting yellow in it. After that I'm getting right back into making music and my own music because one thing I really hated was that we were singing music by other people.”
Jennel sang Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary” during her November 14, 2012 performance — a song choice she largely blames for her exit. “This week the song was something I would never have chosen for myself,” Jennel reveals.
Despite frustration with the song choice and concerns about the audience really understanding her, Jennel refused to surrender her trademark gumption. “Now it's time for me to show the world who I really am and I want people to appreciate that — because coming into this competition I was myself, but I was looking for a place to grow, and a place for someone to guide me, I felt like Demi guided me, but the viewers… Not that they couldn't handle it, it was a lot for them to take in, the all-black, but you know what? Everything everyone has told me on the show and all the relationships I've made will stick with me and give me the drive to keep going and I'm going to keep going. This cannot be the end for me.”
We certainly hope it’s not!
