Britney, Fergie, Janet Jackson – a lot of names are being bandied around for X Factor’s second season. But no one knows what it’s like to be mentored by a celebrity quite like the competition’s finalists.
So, who should become a judge and mentor on the X Factor? Wetpaint Entertainment took the question to Josh Krajcik whose mentor Nicole Scherzinger won’t be returning to shepherd more contestants through the process.
“One of the things that I liked about Nicole was that she was an artist herself, so she understood that aspect of it,” says Josh. “It was really valuable to have her on my team in that sense because she's not only an artist, she's a current one.”
Josh would love to see someone combine the knowledge of what it’s like to perform, with knowledge about what works in the music industry.
“I think [X Factor needs] somebody who has the knowledge of what it's like to be up there [on stage], as well as have the knowledge that Simon brings to the table - good instincts and just knowing music,” he says. “It would be interesting to find somebody like that.”
Josh can imagine someone like Fergie at the judges table.
“If they go with Fergie, you get the star power there,” says Josh. “She's a current artist. She knows what it's like to be up on the stage. She knows how to sing. That would probably be a good fit.”
Saying that, the former contestant was sad to hear the news of the massive overhaul.
“I loved Steve. I thought he was great. Nicole was a great mentor for me, and Paula is just such a sweetheart,” he tells us. “But you know I'm not surprised in the sense that I know that Nicole wished that she had more time for being an artist. And I heard Simon say, right after the show, to the media, that there's going to be some big changes. So I guess in that sense, we shouldn’t be surprised that big changes have happened.”
