Fans of The X Factor are crazy to know who’ll fill those two judges seats left empty by Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul, and it looks like Radar Online has confirmed who’ll be in at least one: Britney Spears for $15 million! Or $16 million, as Us Weekly, reports.
After several weeks of talks and rumors, which included mentions of Rihanna and LeAnn Rimes as potential judges, Brit’s camp lobbed a $20 million counter-offer to The X Factor’s original offer of $10 million. Now that Britney’s camp has reportedly struck a deal at more than $15 million, the smaller details still need to be sorted out, like Simon Cowell’s reported insistence that Brit sign a 2-year contract, while she wants the ability to opt out after one year if it’s not a good fit.
Cowell’s desire for a multi-season deal is surprising considering he reportedly expressed reservations over her credibility as a judge. An X Factor insider recently told Us Weekly, “Simon's worried she won't be able to deliver good advice, and he's afraid contestants won't take her seriously."
Yet after resuscitating her career from full meltdown-mode to Glee guest-star with gusto, mentoring new talent on The X Factor could prove to be exactly the kind of face time America needs with Miss Brit to restore some of that credibility. According to a production insider speaking with E! Online, "This is an exciting time for [Britney]. It'll be a fun project and she is welcoming the chance to mentor up-and-coming artists. She loves the idea of helping emerging talent get the recognition they deserve and is really looking forward to being on the show."
And, as one show insider puts it to Us Weekly, The X Factor needs Brit “badly . . .You can't have Idol with J Lo and Voice with Xtina and have X-Factor with, um, Paula Abdul?"
