As reported, pop diva Britney Spears has reached out to Fox in an attempt to put her name in the running as a Paula Abdul/Nicole Scherzinger replacement on The X Factor. Simon Cowell didn't waste any time responding to her request, although he didn't quite manage to make it clear one way or another if she was a viable candidate.

"I couldn't comment on it," he told US Magazine. "Are we flattered that there could be interest? Yes. Other than that, there's going to be a lot of twists and turns over the next few weeks and a lot of things we're going to announce."

Among those twists are a hosting duo with a guy and gal sharing the duties of erstwhile host Steve Jones. Is Brian Dunkelman available for a meeting? We miss him...

Anyway, do you think Brit's got a shot? We think it would be kind of wild to watch her judge a singing competition opposite Christina Aguilera over on The Voice next fall.
