By all accounts, The X Factor Season 2 is shaping up to be b-a-n-a-n-a-s. First, there are the (loud) murmurs Britney Spears is officially in to fill one of the two empty judges’ seats. Now, New York Post is reporting another dynamic pop star has been approached to add some much-needed sheen to the sophomore season of the show: Gwen Stefani.
Gwen is rumored to be eyed to replace host Steve Jones. A source tells the Post that Gwen has been approached by the show, adding the No Doubt singer has confirmed she’s interested in the gig. No word yet on how much Simon Cowell is willing to pay Gwen to man the microphone — especially in light of the fact that his budget took a major hit when doling out $15 million big ones to Brit-Brit.
But Simon’s got his eye on the competition, the source adds, and is willing to shill out a pretty penny to ensure higher ratings. “[Simon] is feeling the pressure and knows only a big-time, well-respected name will do if he wants anyone to flip the channel from The Voice.”
