If at first you don’t succeed... then form a brand new supergroup with some of your best friends and try, try again! Or, you know, complete strangers... The latter was the case on the October 10 episode of The X Factor, in which five girls who were cut as solo artists joined up under the guidance of Herr Simon Cowell (you know, like that hit song: 5 become 1?).

We were super impressed by Dinah Jane Hansen’s performances in both the auditions and the Boot Camp (where she went up against Diamond White). So, it was a little odd when DJH didn’t get a golden ticket straight into the judges’ house round. Obviously, there’s a ton of talent in the “Teens” group (Dinah is only 15!), so it’s clear that the judges wanted to find a way to keep her around.

Ally Brooke impressed us in her first audition, but we didn’t see a whole lot of her until her name wasn’t called for solos. We’re excited to see how she lends her voice to LYLAS. Lauren Juaregui is another artist who has a great voice but who didn’t catch our attention until she sang against Sister C in Boot Camp. While Britney called Sister C’s sound “annoying,” we loved Lauren’s range and tone.

We haven’t seen Camila Cabello yet but she must be good if she’s going to be singing with Dinah Jane, Ally, Lauren, and Normani Hamilton. Normani impressed us when she sang against Arin Ray on One Direction’s “That’s What Makes You Beautiful” in Boot Camp.

Although both LYLAS and the newly formed guy group (we won’t call them a boy band just yet) Playback have their work cut out for them against more experienced outfits, they shined in their performance of “Impossible.” Who knows, maybe they’re the next big thing. They might wanna work on that name though...
