We have to stop and take a reality check when we’re writing the phrase “only five million dollars”... but there it is! According to TMZ, The X Factor’s creators have decided that the promised prize is just not enough for whoever’s left standing this year.
If you look closely at the story, however, this seems pretty run-of-the-mill (at least as far as million-dollar-contracts go). The X Factor winner will get his or her five million in one-million-dollar annual installments. In addition to that, as elaborated in the contract all of the contestants signed on day one, said winner can get a certain percentage of whatever he or she makes in sales, touring, and other public performances.
So in short, what’s going on here is that if the X Factor winner works, the X Factor winner will get... well, paid. Not exactly dramatic material, right?
