The New York Post is on a mission today: to let fans know The X Factor’s contestants as thoroughly as humanly possible. While Rachel Crow looks at her troubled past with heartwarming goodwill, Brian (Astro) Bradley’s got some harsh words for his estranged father.
“My real dad wasn’t supportive,” Astro said. (His stepfather seems to be doing a little better in this department.) “He wasn’t going to let me compete in this competition. He is just a jerk.”
Pretty vituperative stuff! But when, as the Post says, a kid is raised almost singlehandedly by his mother his whole life, we suppose he might give his dad the cold shoulder. Astro’s mom pulled out all the stops over the years. He went on to say: “Even when I sucked, when I was like 8 years old writing scribble scrabble, she’d take her hard-earned money and pay for studio sessions for me.”
We're "looking at his mom" with admiration!
From a performing standpoint, Astro’s not had it easy. “There was a lot of rejection” back when he was looking to land a record deal, with label representatives “sit[ting] there and [ignoring] me when was talking about the ideas I had.” But now it looks like Astro will have the last laugh: “I know I am not supposed to, but I am giving great performances out of spite. I want them to see this and be like, ‘Oh, man! Why didn’t I sign him?’”
With all this in mind, we can’t help being a little confused when Astro says that “I am in a positive moment right now. Every thought I am thinking is positive.” Whatever his motivation, the kid has his priorities straight!
