Watch Your Back, Phantom! Simon Cowell Plans an X Factor Musical
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the real day the music died; Simon Cowell is reportedly in talks to launch a musical in the West End based on The X Factor. He's already hired a librettist and book writer and is in "very early discussions," according to Deadline about finding a venue in London to put up the production.
Hilariously enough, he's in competition with fellow American Idol producer Simon Fuller, who's currently producing a Spice Girls musical entitled (duh) Viva Forever to go up in the West End. Unlike Broadway, very few West End theaters are equipped to put up full-scale musicals, so the Simons have to duke it out for a spot. Of course, making matters more awkward is that Fuller is actually suing Cowell for an executive producing credit on The X Factor, which Cowell denies he deserves.
Okay boys, you're both shmillionaires. Can we please simmer down and handle this like adults?
Now, about this Spice Girls musical...
