Audition Song: “Trouble” by Ray LaMontagne

Vino Alan has a lot of tattoos on his head. Like, not just a tasteful tear here and there — we’re talking a scalp-full of stripes and designs. If there were a tattoo for every ounce of his talent we saw on the third episode of The X Factor 2012, it still wouldn’t be enough ink.

This guy can effing sing.

When he took the stage, the judges were fascinated by his tats. Britney’s face was so scrunched up and reviled, we thought she might be watching home videos of her shaved-head years. After they asked him to show off his tats, Demi said, “I’m digging it. That’s sick.” Britney made more faces.

He describes his style as similar to Ray LaMontagne, so it was fitting that he chose Ray’s soulful single “Trouble.” Aaaaand he did it better.

“I want you to know that I was prepared not to like you at all,” L.A. Reid said afterward. Same here, man. Good thing we were all wrong.
