While we’re only on the second season of the X Factor in the states, the UK is way far ahead of us. They just wrapped Season 9 on December 9, and it sounds like it was a doozie of a fight to the finish. Early favorite Ella Henderson was knocked out in November, and everyone was shocked at her exit when she had to sing for her life against James Arthur.

But it turns out the UK made the dramatic loss worth it, because James went on to become the winner this week. And that’s not all — after he won, his first single, (a cover of Shontelle’s song) “Impossible” went flying off the internet and onto iPods all around the world. In fact, it became the fastest-selling X Factor single of all time, with 187,000 downloads in 24 hours.
