UPDATE - Astro was eliminated on December 1st. Here's why we thought he might have won
Astro, aka The Astronomical Kid, Brian Bradley. Whichever name you prefer. We first met the 14-year-old Brooklynite at his audition in Newark, NJ. He performed his original rap composition “Stop Looking at My Momz,” and despite his youth, he impressed the judges and audience with his talent and swaggering stage presence. Astro isn’t shy about telling people his goal is to be as big as megastars like Jay Z and Kanye, and he works hard to showcase himself as the genuine article.
Astro had a few things working in his favor on the Factor. First off, he’s young. Voters tend to be young, too, and like to vote for a contestant they can identify with. Of course, Rachel Crow and Drew are also young, so he’ll probably be splitting the youth vote with the girls. But on the other hand, they’re, y’know, girls, so him being a young guy might have helped, too.
Another thing that seemed in Astro’s favor is that he stands out. Chris Rene also raps, but stylistically the two feel pretty different. Astro’s also very intent on performing original lyrics on the show, which helps to present him as a true artist and not just a novelty act.
Alas! We shall follow his career with great interest.
