Emblem3 made waves on The X Factor December 12 semi-finals show, when the California trio pulled off a pair of excellent performances. After the show, the boys chatted with Wetpaint and other media outlets about their chances of winning. Although they’ve never been number one on the leaderboard, that might not matter.

Simon Cowell, who has been their mentor since the Judges’ Houses episodes back in October, is a music label magician. The company he owns with Sony — Syco Entertainment — is responsible for passing out the purse to the X Factor winners in the US and UK (and also owns the show franchises).

But although the winner of the whole shebang is the act that gets the advertised five million dollar record contract, that doesn’t mean they’re the only ones. In fact, XF UK losers/IRL winners One Direction are signed to Syco (jointly with Columbia), as are other XF alums such as Cher Lloyd and Chris Rene — both of whom fell short of winning the competition in their respective countries (UK, US).

So, will Emblem3 be the next in line? Well, first of all, the contest isn’t over yet and they may still win the title. But if not, what then? E3 member Wes says, “[Simon] always kind of looks at us like, wink, wink, hint, hint. You know?” Adds Drew, “Our first audition, our first live performance he said, “You guys are going.” [He] just pointed up, and like winked. He said, ‘You guys are going to the top.’”

Sounds like the boys have nothing to worry about. As for a record deal? We’ll have to wait and see. But FYI Simon, we’ll buy whatever they’re selling.
