X Factor finalist CeCe Frey might have the strongest personality, but judges are still unsure about CeCe’s look and sound. Last week, after struggling through “Eye of the Tiger,” CeCe’s mentor Demi Lovato said, “I don’t know if CeCe knows who she is.” This week, at the November 12, 2012 finalists party in Los Angeles, Wetpaint Entertainment spoke exclusively to CeCe about how she’s dealing with the pressure — and if, contrary to what Demi thinks, she has a firm grip on who she is.

How did you feel when you first found out all the contestants were going to be ranked?
Well, whenever we found out that we were going to know where we were ranked in the competition, by that point I think I already knew I was in the bottom two, so I’m like well even if I make it through I know I’m going to be twelfth. So in a way it does kind of suck because obviously twelfth is not anywhere that I want to be, but at the same time you also get to see where your competitors are. For some people that might psych them out, but for me, knowing I’m at the bottom really just pushes me to keep climbing. If you think about it, there’s only 11 acts standing in my way from going all the way to the top so I’ve gotta just keep climbing the ladder and keep working on it. It keeps me from being lazy that’s for sure.

Does it put more pressure on you?
Definitely, it definitely puts a lot of pressure on me especially being in the bottom two two weeks in a row, the pressure is insurmountable almost but for me pressure and I work really well together and if I’m under pressure I seem to just perform that much better.

How do you deal with the pressure?
I think for me I just always have to keep concentrating on taking deep breaths and not letting it really capture a hold of me. I have to be in my own head and I have to keep telling myself okay you’re scared, you’re nervous, there’s a lot of pressure but you can handle it. You can do it! You just have to keep your head on straight.

Last week Demi mentioned that you may not know who CeCe is yet or exactly what direction you want to go in, would you agree with that?
No not at all actually. I think I know exactly who I am, I think that what’s kind of been happening is maybe I’ve been pulled in other directions of who other people think that I ought to be. For me I already know who I am and I know the direction I would like to go, it’s just hard getting there at this point. I think that it might be confusing, people might think that I don’t know who I am, people think that I might not know what direction I want to go in and I don’t think that’s the case. I just think that in this industry there’s always going to be a lot of opinionated people who think that you ought to be something different than you already are and for me I’m just trying to keep my feet on the ground and be Cece from Decatur you know that grew up on a farm and is just trying to make it in the music industry.

What changes do you think you’ll make so you start getting more votes?
For me I just think there’s a common denominator with the fact that my ‘Save Me’ songs have been saving me and my Wednesday night songs have been landing me in the bottom two so maybe if I did a song that was more like my ‘Save Me’ songs I wouldn’t need to be saved! I’m going to try something maybe more along those lines this week.

What can we expect from your song choice then?
Well I don’t want to give too much away but it’s definitely a Diva song but it’s not the kind of Diva song that’s all the glitz and the glam and you know what I mean, the big production. It’s definitely going to be more stripped so you guys can see what I really can do.

Yeah I remember you saying you thought you had more of a soulful voice…
I do have a soulful voice I think which just came from growing up singing to Whitney Houston and singing to Christina Aguilera and singing to the big, big voices.

If you could duet with one other contestant on The X Factor who would it be and why?
I would totally want to duet with Lyric 145 because I think maybe I could sing one of their hooks and then maybe Lyric would let me hop on a rap verse or something! I’d just start busting a flow you know what I mean? I think that would be cool because I take swag lessons from Lyric and the boys every single day so I mean we have class!
