’90s Group Xscape Fields Offers for Biopic: Deals Are On the Table
While many made for TV biopics fail to do their subjects justice, the success of BET’s recent movie, The New Edition Story, has set off a maelstrom of conversation surrounding the genre.
Many are now wondering who will be the next group to see their history hit the small screen, with reports rolling in that '90s group Xscape will be the next in line.
Following the announcement of their reunion, the group consisting of LaTocha and Tamika Scott, Kandi Burruss and Tameka “Tiny” Harris are already fielding offers for a biopic, according to TheJasmineBrand.
“There’s serious interest from a number of parties about this. They’ve received multiple offers and deals are already on the table. People want to see this story.”
They continued, “No one REALLY knows their story. Fans have heard bits and pieces of how they started and what broke them up, but no one can tell their story like [they can].”
While many groups deal with certain members refusing to sign over life rights, all four ladies of Xscape are reportedly on board.
“The entire group is in agreement that a biopic makes sense. They just want to ensure it’s done the right way.”
The film would potentially cover how the group was discovered, the success they saw in the 1990s, their slow decline, and where each member is today.
As many fans know, Kandi went on to become a Grammy winning songwriter, penning hits for Pink, Mariah Carey, Destiny’s Child, Alicia Keys, TLC and more.
Of course, she’s also known for her stint on a little show called The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
