1. 'An Ember in the Ashes' by Sabaa Tahir

'An Ember in the Ashes' by Sabaa Tahir

Sabaa Tahir’s epic, fairly violent YA series An Ember in the Ashes would make such an incredible, gritty fantasy miniseries. The setting, inspired by ancient Rome, would look beautiful on screen, and the spy-story plot would make for gripping television.

It’s currently “in development,” so cross your fingers something actually comes of it.

2. ‘We Were Liars’ by E. Lockhart

‘We Were Liars’ by E. Lockhart

YA queen E. Lockhart’s dreamy, summery story would work so beautifully as a movie or a limited series. The flashbacks, stunning real estate, and overarching mystery is reminiscent of Big Little Lies, but for teenagers.

Bonus: There’s already a script for this movie, which was optioned for the big screen back in 2014. Come faster!

3. 'The Selection' by Kiera Cass

'The Selection' by Kiera Cass

Sighs. The YA novel adaptation of Kiera Cass’ dystopian, The Bachelor-like series has had many ups and downs, but it’s definitely time to see this become a TV show. Gorgeous galas, battles, and swoony love triangles? What’s not to love?

A 2013 Selection TV movie already exists, but come on, this should be a long-running series.

4. 'The Hate U Give' by Angie Thomas

'The Hate U Give' by Angie Thomas

We’re overdue for a project on the Black Lives Matter movement, and Angie Thomas’s breakout 2017 hit YA book would be the perfect basis for a movie. It centers on 16-year-old Starr Carter, who sees her childhood best friend (who was unarmed) shot and killed by a police officer.

A movie adaptation is currently listed as “in development,” with reports from March 2016 that Amandla Stenberg will star.

5. 'Red Queen' by Victoria Aveyard

'Red Queen' by Victoria Aveyard

In a world divided by the ruling Silver class and the lowly Red class, Red-blooded Mare has a secret: She was blessed with Silver-only magical powers. Victoria Aveyard’s sprawling fantasy series would be so epic as a TV series.

A Red Queen movie, not TV series, has been trapped “in development” for years, with rumors that Elizabeth Banks was in talk to direct back in 2014.

6. 'Delirium' by Lauren Oliver

'Delirium' by Lauren Oliver

We sobbed when we first read this dystopian YA novel, set in a time when love is considered a mental illness. There was talk of making Lauren Oliver’s series into a TV series, and we need that discussion revived, stat.

There was an Emma Roberts-starring Delirium TV movie in 2014, after the pilot was passed over, but it’s so ready for another shot at a series series.

Caribbean legends crossed with fantasy epic and a love letter to artists and art. These elements all come together in Shadowshaper, and it would make such a lush and vibrant TV series or movie.

8. 'Only Ever Yours' by Louise O'Neill

'Only Ever Yours' by Louise O'Neill

Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale is about to be a TV series, and we think it opens the door for an adaptation of Irish author Louise O’Neill’s dystopian feminist story about a future where women are groomed and sold to men.

In 2015, Louise’s book was optioned for a movie and it has been listed as “in development” ever since, but we’re so ready for more news on when it’s coming.

9. 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' by Jenny Han

'The Summer I Turned Pretty' by Jenny Han

This summery series by Jenny Han is practically made to be a TV show. Belly is in a love triangle with two brothers, both of whom she has loved in one way or another her whole life. With the beach house setting, it would be a place you’d love to visit on appointment every week. It could be a Dawson’s Creek for a new generation.

Jenny actually has a different awesome YA series in development, based on her Lara Jean books, starting with To All The Boys I Loved Before.

10. The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer

The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer

A galactic Disney princess story where Cinderella is a cyborg and Rapunzel is a hacker trapped on a satellite? Please, this TV series would be a game-changer, so we need to make it happen.

11. 'Ten' by Gretchen McNeil

'Ten' by Gretchen McNeil

A limited horror series based on Ten would be so scary incredible, like MTV’s Scream. Loosely based on Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, a group of teens have a party in a remote house and well… people start getting murdered.

Clearly great minds think alike, because a Ten movie is in post-production, which hopefully means it’s close to being in a theater near us.

12. 'Juniors' by Kaui Hart Hemmings

'Juniors' by Kaui Hart Hemmings

Kaui Hart Hemmings wrote the short story that became the basis for the George Clooney movie The Descendants, so we know her works translate beautifully to the screen. Juniors is her first YA novel, and it’s also set in Hawaii (please, more TV shows in Hawaii!), so there’s plenty of sunshine, surfing, and beach days in this high school coming-of-age show.

13. 'Legend' by Marie Lu

'Legend' by Marie Lu

A criminal’s and a government prodigy’s world collide in a dystopian United States in Marie Lu’s critically and fan adored YA series. It would make such an exciting, suspenseful (and sometimes romantic!) limited series.

Sadly, a Legend movie adaption has been stuck in development since way back in 2012. Come on, Hollywood, let’s make this happen.

14. 'American Girls' by Alison Umminger

'American Girls' by Alison Umminger

Last year, 1960s-set, women-focused books were uber popular, which means that trend should translate to movies and TV soon. American Girls centers on a teen girl who runs away to Los Angeles in present day and finds similarities to the infamous Manson girls from the 1960s.

‘The Star-Touched Queen’ by Roshani Chokshi

Roshani Chokshi’s dark fantasy series would make such a stunning limited tv show. Maya, the daughter of the Raja, is cursed with a marriage of death and destruction. As she heads down that path, there’s passion, magic, and a setting that would just pop on the screen.

16. 'Summer Sisters' by Judy Blume

'Summer Sisters' by Judy Blume

OK, so this is technically an adult novel, but it’s often about teen girls and it’s by young adult queen Judy Blume, so it can count. This sweeping story about two BFFs over decades of summers has been primed and ready for a movie adaptation for generations, and it’s time we see it come to fruition.
