Zac Efron: Being Open About Rehab is “A Giant Weight Off My Chest”
Zac Efron may have originally gone to great lengths to keep his 2013 stints in rehab underwraps, but now that the secret’s out, he’s glad the world knows what he’s gone through. In fact, the Neighbors star says, he feels so much better sharing his struggles than keeping them quiet.
When Zac sat down with The Today Show Monday morning, he talked about overcoming substance abuse, and why now is the perfect time for his new comedy, starring Seth Rogen and Dave Franco, to hit theaters.
“Actually, it was a weight off my chest. It was great. It was a fantastic time. It was a rough year,” Zac said of going public about rehab. “It’s kind of funny: Neighbors is such a great icing on the cake for all of this. I was kind of able to channel all of that and put it back into this movie. I feel great. I feel really blessed to be here working with this group of guys. I couldn’t be better right now. I’m really excited.”
This means everyone convinced that Zac has relapsed can officially chill. The former High School Musical star seems to be doing better than ever, and we couldn’t be happier for him that he was able to get his life back on track.
“Without those moments where you feel like your lowest, it’s impossible to appreciate the high ones,” he said. “But I sit here in front of you today much happier and healthier than I’ve probably ever been.”
