The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is by listening to Zooey Deschanel sing Christmas songs. It’s true, we did a quick poll of everyone within arm’s length, and we want to feature the New Girl star on all of our holiday compilations. While her looks have changed a ton since she made her first big appearance in 2003’s Elf, wherein she showed off her pipes while decorating the department store tree.

Since her turn in the Will Ferrell film, Zooey’s only seen her career skyrocket, and now she’s a househould name -- despite the Salinger spelling. Though she hasn’t had a ton of film roles as endearing as Jovie, the blondest, shower singingest elf around, she’s known for her quirky charm.

Her current role, running three years so far with no sign of stopping, is Jessica “Jess” Day on the Fox hit New Girl. In it, she plays a school teacher who moves in with three goofy dudes after breaking up with her boyfriend. Now, she’s dating one of those guys, and it’s still the hijinks-filled show we fell in love with.

But don’t worry, guys, all of her Christmas song singing work didn’t go to waste. Zooey married Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard in 2009, and they probably sang a whole bunch until their 2012 split (still crying, guys). Music is clearly a big part of her life, since Zooey and M. Ward started a band called She & Him in 2006, and even released a holiday album in 2011, called (really cleverly, guys), A Very She & Him Christmas.

Can you believe how much has changed since Zooey’s turn in 2003’s Elf? Check out some of her singing clips to get into the holiday spirit and then tell us your favorite Zooey role or song in the comments below!
